Your Girlfriend’s Favorite Gay Bar in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Since I was twenty-three, I have made it a tradition to always go on a trip for my birthday. There is no better way to celebrate another year around the sun than by exploring a new place, meeting new people, and enjoying some delicious food!

For my 29th birthday, I decided to venture to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Located in the Jalisco state, Puerto Vallarta is a vibrant city that is known for its LGBTQ+ culture, clubs, bars, and beautiful beaches. I had no idea about that before I decided to choose this as a destination for my birthday. Ironically, I ended up inviting my best male friend, Mikey, who is gay, along with me. Needless to say, he was in paradise the whole trip!

After some typical birthday shenanigans, which consisted of dinner at a bougie restaurant with a stunning view, I was excited to go out for some drinks. I had spent the afternoon scouring TikTok for some options and had settled on a place called The Corner Bar. The TikTok videos featured hunky guys shaking up cocktails and serving them with a smile, and I thought, “Hey, why not? It’s my birthday!” And so, after an amazing dinner at La Cappella, we were off to The Corner Bar.

Now let me tell you something about me… I have the WORST gay-dar (your radar to clock that someone is gay). As we approached The Corner Bar, that was actually on a corner, we were greeted with a rainbow neon sign that featured a man in a martini glass. We opened the sliding doors of the bar and entered into an intimate, colorful space that had a beautiful bar that wrapped around the room. The bar had an 80s vibe. Cher was blasting from the speakers and the two televisions on either side of the bar were playing 80s music videos of all kinds.

The shirtless wait staff gave us a smile, showed us to the bar, and began giving us an overview of the drinks! The bar had an amazing selection of signature and hand-crafted cocktails with creative names. My favorite was the “Grab My Cucumber” -what a name for a drink! The manager of the bar, Johnny, even gave us a shot of tequila to celebrate my birthday! I remember thinking “Wow…this place is amazing! Great drinks, vibes, and the wait staff are all nice and SO handsome!”

Mikey leaned over and said “You know they’re all gay right?” I remember I was tickled pink laughing with my drink in my hand saying, “Well that makes sense!”

If you ever find yourself in Puerto Vallarta with your gay friend, a group of friends, or by yourself, The Corner Bar is the perfect place to enjoy a drink, meet some amazing people, and feel safe as a woman. I visited Puerto Vallarta three times in 2024, and the highlight of each trip was always enjoying a drink, some good conversation, and a great view at The Corner Bar. It is a 10/10 experience.
